(DES), the leading provider of intelligent Solid-State Disk (SSD) systems for client/server database applications, announced today the appointment of Gene E. Bowles, an industry veteran with more than 16 years of management experience in the computer storage industry, to the posts of president, chief executive officer and member of the board, effective immediately. Bowles joins DES from Storage Dimensions, Inc., the leading independent supplier of high-availability RAID storage for open systems and client/server applications. Bowles co-founded Storage Dimensions in 1985 and last served as executive vice president in charge of marketing, corporate communications and customer service, as well as serving as a member of the board of directors and corporate secretary. During his tenure at Storage Dimensions, Bowles was the principal architect of its product marketing strategies, which helped the company forge its leadership position in the Windows NT and NetWare server storage market. Prior to co-founding Storage Dimensions, Bowles held executive and management positions in marketing, business planning, finance and operations at Atasi Corporation, a manufacturer of disk drives; National Micronetics, a supplier of Winchester recording heads, Caterpillar and Texas Instruments. In addition, he has served as a member of the board of directors of Maxoptix Corporation, a manufacturer of high-performance optical storage devices, and sat on the advisory board to the board of directors of Qualix Corporation, a publisher and distributor of UNIX client/server software.
